内容摘要

How do tropical forests harbor so many species? In this seminar, I will talk about my recent research addressing this question by using the functional trait approach. The three main topics include the functional response to environmental gradients, the relationships between growth and traits, and the trade-offs between demographic rates.

报告人简介

María Natalia Umaña is an assistant professor in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at the University of Michigan. Research in the Umaña lab studies the ecological mechanisms that drive community structure and dynamics in these species-rich ecosystems and most recently in temperate forests as well. To this end, she integrate performance information (growth and survival) with species and individual-level trait data, which inform about the interactions between organisms and their environment. Most of her research is based on tropical forests from Asia and the Americas and on temperate forests from the USA. Her work appears in Ecology Letters, Ecology, Journal of Ecology, Global Ecology and Biogeography, The American Naturalist, etc. Google Scholar link: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Y4jY3iQAAAAJ&hl=zh-CN
