本课题组专注于大型兽类、鸟类及其栖息地的野外生态学和保护生物学研究。研究组主要关注以下两个科学问题：

大尺度上，动物群落（以兽类和鸟类为主要研究对象）的组成、结构、空间分布格局及其动态变化的影响因素和作用机制是什么？

小尺度上，温带山地森林生态系统中，生物多样性的共存机制是什么？大中型兽类（有蹄类和食肉类）在其中的生态功能是什么？它们与森林植被之间的有什么交互作用？

对应于这两个问题，课题组研究将有机整合小尺度野外生态学研究以及大尺度宏生态学分析。课题组以温带山地森林生态系统中的大型兽类和鸟类为主要研究对象，具体的研究方向包括：

大型兽类和鸟类的基础生态学研究与种群动态评估；

复杂生态系统内大型兽类物种间以及与森林栖息地之间的交互作用，及其背后的驱动机制；

动物群落的组成模式以及动态变化的机理；

大尺度动物多样性格局及驱动机制;

野生动物监测与自然保护区管理应用，保护成效评估。
