The 15th PKU-Annual Ecology Symposium was successfully held

The Institute of Ecology (IOE) organized the 15th PKU-Annual Ecology Symposium in the Qiu-Lin Lecture Hall, Peking University (PKU) on December 22-23. The Form attracted ~ 800 scholars and students from more than 40 universities and research institutes across China.

The Forum was kicked off by Dr. Yanhong Tang, who made the annual report of the IOE.  Dr. Tang overviewed the major progress of the institute in education, research, and social services in 2018. In particular, he highlighted several interesting scientific findings from the faculty member. IOE members had been highly productive in scientific research in 2018, with >150 papers published, including 13 papers in PNAS, Science Advances, and Nature Communications/ Geosciences/ Ecology and Evolution.

Five invited keynote presentations were then delivered by Prof. Dayong Zhang from the Beijing Normal University, Prof. Haiyan Chu from the Institute of Soil Science, CAS, Profs. Xin Zhou and Gang Wang from the China Agriculture University, and Prof. Xiaojuan Feng from the Institute of Botany, CAS. Subsequently, ten professors and nineteen students from the Institute reported their research activities on a large variety of topics.

The PKU-Ecology Forum was launched in 2004 and has since been held in late December every year. The Forum has become a significant platform for exchanges in ecological studies in China. There are usually three major programs in the two days’ forum. In the first day, there are the invited presentations from distinguished ecologists outside the Peking University and the progress reports by faculty members from the university. The second day is for scientific presentations and exchanges among graduate students. The 15th Ecology Forum is the first Forum since the establishment of the Institute.
